Comparison of recuperators

To provide the certain conditions for technological processes in production and industry, recuperators of various types are used. They have their own advantages and disadvantages; therefore, when choosing a suitable heat exchanger, their features should be taken into account.

Shell and tube devices

Shell-and-tube unit is considered a traditional recuperator, it is widely used in various fields of activity. The principle of operation can be described as following: one medium moves through the pipes located in the shell, the second medium washes the pipes and due to this heat exchange occurs.

Rotary recuperators

This type of heat exchanger is usually used for supply and exhaust ventilation systems. The principle of operation : heat transfer surfaces rotate and receive heat when passing in a changing environment.

Benefits:

  • Small dimensions;
  • High efficiency;
  • Adjustable amount of heat supplied.

Disadvantages:

  • Maintenance complexity and high cost of repair;
  • Energy dependence and energy costs.

OPT recuperator

The heat exchanger of this type has modular design consisting of panels. Panels are separators of alternating channels for the passage of medium, they receive heat from one channel and transfer it to another. The use of ribbed panels for modules allows incresing the heat exchange surface and the efficiency of the unit.

Benefits:

  • Energy independence and lack of energy costs;
  • Small size and weight;
  • Easy maintenance and durability;
  • High maximum temperature;
  • High performance.
